Year 2
Information for children, parents and carers
Welcome to the class page for year 2. The class teachers in year 2 are Miss Elliott and Mrs Gallagher. Miss Elliott works with the children on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mrs Gallagher works with the children on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Pupils also receive support from teaching assistants - Miss Johnson, Mrs Baker and Miss Farrow and finally, Mrs Tait - who is our learning support teacher. Our class ethos is that every child belongs and we are committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive environment, where every child feels safe, valued and supported. We will communicate with you regularly and keep you up to date with your child's progress. On this page, you will be able to see a weekly timetable and a yearly overview of what the children are learning.
Communication
We use class dojo to send and receive messages, and also to post photos of special events and activities. Below is the link:
You will be given a letter at the beginning of the year which outlines how you join this app.
Messages sent by the office will come through on the MyEd app.
P.E. days
PE days are Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure that your child comes to school on these days wearing the school PE kit which includes: Drive PE top, blue or black shorts/tracksuit bottoms (not branded) and appropriate trainers or plimsolls.
Homework
- Contact books and reading books are sent out on Mondays.
- Please return these on Friday so that books can be changed and spellings can be put in contact books.
- Your child will bring home 2 reading books.
- One is a book for your child to read to you (sounds write phonics book). We use the sounds write phonic scheme and your child's reading book will be linked to the sound they have just been learning.
- The other is a ‘reading for pleasure’ book that your child has chosen. They may not be able to read this independently. It is a book for you to read to your child / with your child.
Children in year 2 use numbots to support their learning of maths. They are welcome to use this at home. Below is the link:
At the beginning of the school year, your child will be sent home with their password so they can access numbots. If you have not received a password, please speak to the year 2 staff.
