Curriculum Intent
At The Drive Primary School, our Computing curriculum aims to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in a digital world. Through the Kapow scheme, we inspire curiosity about technology and develop computational thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Pupils learn to understand how digital systems work, create their own programs and use technology safely and responsibly. We aim to develop confident, resilient and independent learners who can apply computing skills across the curriculum and in everyday life.
Our curriculum reflects our RESPECT values, promoting safe, respectful and responsible behaviour online, whilst preparing pupils to become informed digital citizens. Throughout their Computing learning, pupils are encouraged to demonstrate RESPECT values by:
- Respect – Using technology responsibly and showing respect for others online
- Empathy – Understanding how actions online can affect others
- Self-Awareness – Recognising how to use technology safely and manage screen time appropriately
- Passion & Positivity – Approaching challenges with curiosity and enthusiasm
- Excellence – Taking pride in creating high-quality digital work and solving problems effectively
- Communication – Sharing ideas clearly and collaborating respectfully
- Teamwork – Working together to develop programs and solve computational problems
Curriculum Implementation
Computing is taught using the Kapow scheme, ensuring clear progression from Early Years to Key Stage 2 across:
- Computer Science (programming and algorithms)
- Information Technology (creating digital content)
- Digital Literacy (online safety)
Lessons are practical and engaging, allowing pupils to design, create, test and evaluate digital outcomes. Kagan cooperative learning strategies support collaboration, discussion and problem-solving.
Teaching is inclusive and adaptive, ensuring all pupils can access learning and achieve success. Enrichment opportunities and cross-curricular links help deepen understanding and engagement.

Children leave The Drive as confident and capable users of technology who:
- Understand key computing concepts and vocabulary
- Can solve problems through programming and logical thinking
- Create purposeful digital content
- Use technology safely and responsibly
- Demonstrate resilience, curiosity and independence
They are well-prepared for the next stage of education and life in an increasingly digital world.

Supporting All Learners
At The Drive Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), can access and succeed in Computing.
Teaching is adaptive and inclusive, with lessons carefully scaffolded to support a range of learning needs. This may include:
- Use of visual aids, step-by-step instructions and modelling
- Chunked tasks and simplified language where appropriate
- Additional adult support or pre-teaching of key vocabulary
- Opportunities for repetition and overlearning
- Use of assistive technologies where needed
Pupils are also provided with appropriate challenge to ensure all learners, including those who are more able, are supported to reach their full potential.

Additional Information
Computing is enriched through a range of engaging experiences and cross-curricular opportunities. Pupils apply their computing skills across subjects, for example:
- Creating presentations and research in core and foundation subjects.
- Using data handling and spreadsheets in Maths
Where possible, enrichment opportunities such as themed Coding and Online Safety days, STEM activities and external workshops are used to deepen understanding and engagement.
