PE and Sports Funding

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is additional Government funding allocated to schools to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sporting opportunities for all children. Schools are required to spend this funding exclusively on PE and sport provision.

Physical Education at The Drive Community Primary School

At The Drive Primary School, our aim is to inspire every child to develop a lifelong love of physical activity and sport. Through high-quality Physical Education (PE), our whole-school values and a whole-child approach, we strive to nurture confident, resilient and motivated learners who are encouraged to achieve their personal best. We recognise the significant role that physical activity plays in supporting children’s health, wellbeing, concentration, attitudes to learning and academic achievement.

The continued investment of the Primary PE and Sport Premium enables us to further enhance our provision by increasing opportunities for participation in competitive sporting events and providing high-quality professional development for staff. This ensures that all pupils benefit from engaging, inclusive and effective PE and sporting experiences that promote both personal development and lifelong participation in physical activity.

What is Primary PE and Sport Premium?

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is designed to give children an active and healthy start in life by supporting primary schools to enhance the quality of their PE, physical activity and sport provision. Through increased opportunities to participate in high-quality physical education and regular exercise, pupils can experience a wide range of physical, social and emotional benefits.

Regular participation in physical activity contributes positively to both physical and mental wellbeing, helping children to develop healthy lifestyles, improve self-confidence and build resilience. These benefits can also lead to improved behaviour, enhanced concentration and increased engagement in learning, which in turn supports higher levels of academic achievement.

PE Curriculum Map Overview

We have developed a PE Curriculum Map to provide parents, carers and staff with a clear overview of the sports, physical activities and key skills that will be taught throughout the academic year for each year group. The curriculum has been carefully planned to ensure a broad, balanced and progressive programme of learning that meets the requirements of the National Curriculum for Physical Education. Through a wide range of activities and sporting opportunities, pupils are able to develop their physical competence, confidence and enjoyment of being active while building skills that support lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
