SEND
The Drive Community Primary School is committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing and ambitious learning environment where every pupil is valued, respected and supported to achieve their full potential. Inclusion is the practice of ensuring every child feels valued, safe, and supported to participate and learn together in mainstream classrooms, regardless of their individual needs, background, or abilities.
We ensure:
- Equitable Access: Adapting the school environment and teaching methods to fit the student, rather than expecting the student to change to fit the system.
- Whole-School Culture: Extending inclusive values beyond individual lessons into the wider school community, policies, and daily routines.
- Celebrating Diversity: Honouring differences in culture, language, learning pace, and physical or cognitive ability instead of ignoring them.
We recognise that children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) may require additional or different provision to access learning and adjustments to participate fully in school life and achieve positive outcomes. As a Gateshead school, we are committed to the principles of the Gateshead SEND Strategy and Gateshead SEND Thresholds, promoting inclusion, participation, independence and high aspirations for all children and young people with SEND.
