Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

A warm welcome to the Year 1 class page where you will find information about the term ahead, including a sample of our timetable, an overview of what will be taught each term and parent booklets about Year 1. For more information about what is taught in Year 1, please also check our curriculum pages on our website.

The Year 1 team

Mrs Jackson is the main teacher for Year 1. She enjoys active learning and being outside at all times! We are lucky in Year 1 to have a teaching assistant who also offers us support, and her name is Miss Dunn. We also have support from lots of different adults throughout the week.

Mrs Jackson currently works 4 days a week, Monday to Friday. On a Friday, Miss Dunn takes the Year 1 class.

Promoting a love of reading, phonics and book bags

As you know, Year 1 is a year that focusses heavily on developing reading and phonics skills. We follow the Sounds Write scheme for our phonics lesson. Your child will bring home a book bag on a Friday, with two books in it, one linked to the phonics scheme and one linked to promoting a love of reading.

If your child has a book that they currently love to read, then please, let us know and we will happily share it in class.

P.E sessions and Outdoor Learning

We have two PE sessions during our week, one on a Tuesday and one on a Thursday. Your child is free to come to school in PE kits on this day.

We also engage in Outdoor Learning on a Wednesday afternoon, so please be mindful that your child may come home a little more dishevelled than they would normally! Mrs Jackson will let you know via Class DOJO if you need to provide spare clothing that week for your child.

Timetable

Our timetable is below and gives you an idea of our daily routine. We have snack time in Year 1 and this is held just after the morning break. Please note, that this may be subject to change depending on what is occurring in school!
