Year 6

Hello and welcome to our Year 6 page. Here you will find key information about our Year 6 Class. You can explore our timetable, discover what your child will be learning each term, and access helpful parent booklets for Year 6.

Our Year 6 Team
Class Teacher Monday to Thursday – Mrs Graham (Assistant Head Teacher)

Class Teacher Friday – Mrs Cuthbertson (Assistant Head Teacher)

Teacher Assistant – Mrs Gregory

SEND Support Assistant – Miss Gabby

My name is Mrs Graham and I LOVE teaching Maths and helping children to enjoy the subject as much as I do! I used to live in Spain and have a passion for the language and culture. Football is my favourite sport and I look forward to watching both of my sons play at the weekends and cheering on the team that I support.

https://student.readingplus.com/seereader/api/sec/login Children in Year 6 use Reading Plus every day in school. It is a great way to improve your child's reading fluency and comprehension in preparation for the end of key stage 2 SAT in May. If children have not completed the target number of comprehensions (5 weekly), they will need to catch up at home. However, there is sufficient allocated time in our class timetable for children to complete at least one reading task daily.

https://www.mymaths.co.uk/   One task is set weekly on a Monday and should be completed by Friday. There is an online lesson available alongside each task to support your child at home.

Year 6 SATs (Statutory Assessment Tests)

SATs take place 10th -13th May 2027

  • SATs are national curriculum tests at the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6).
  • They assess attainment in:
    • English reading
    • Grammar, punctuation and spelling
    • Mathematics
  • The purpose of these tests is to:
    • Measure progress against national standards
    • Help identify areas for support
    • Contribute to national school performance data
  • The Papers are:
    • Reading (1 paper)
    • Grammar, punctuation & spelling (2 papers)
    • Maths (arithmetic + 2 reasoning papers)
    • Writing and science are teacher assessed (no SATs papers).
  • Preparation:

-SATs reflect what pupils have already been taught in KS2 (not just in Year 6).

-Preparation is built into normal lessons, including revision of previously taught Maths and Grammar         topics in KS2.

-Children attend after-school booster sessions from February, which are extra teaching                 sessions designed to help pupils improve their learning especially in the lead-up to SATs.
