Maths Challenge 11th January 2021

The Activity

Set a timer for a minute (or half a minute) and count how many actions the child can do in that time, such as star jumps, hops, or writing their name.

Encourage your child to think about the following questions:

How many star jumps did you do? How many hops? Which did you do more of? Did you do more or fewer than last time? You did more jumps - does that mean you are getting faster or slower?

To help develop their reasoning skills, encourage them to consider the following:

What do you think you can do more of in a minute, star jumps or twirls?               Why do you think that is?
Try again - can you do more this time?
What makes you think you are getting faster? Or slower?

How many times do you think you can do ‘heads, shoulder, knees and toes’? How many claps or stamps do you think you can do in half a minute?

I would love to see photos/videos of your children completing their challenge!     Good luck, Mrs Martin

Please find below a weekly focus of learning for this week. Daily Phonics/Literacy and Maths activities are going to be set everyday through the app 'Purple Mash'. This mimics our daily provision that we deliver in Reception. We recognise that Purple Mash is an online platform, and we are aware of the importance of active learning so we have planned a blended mix of both. Please note, that the Purple Mash work changes and is updated daily.

This week, we are going to be looking at the story of 'Otto the Book Bear'. We have attached a link for a reading of this story. There are some creative activities below this link that can be used to supplement this story. As always, if you need any additional support, then please do not hesitate to contact us! Thank you, Mrs Jackson and Mrs Martin :)
